Chestnut Oak Lodge, our rental cabin in Basye Virginia at Bryce Resort, has been providing lovely vacations for our guests this ski season. Many of them wake-up with a fresh dusting of snow. This past weekend we snapped a photo of a dusting that rolled over the mountains.

We are striving to continue to improve all Weekend Oasis properties. Usually, we are upgrading something each month at one of the rental cabins. This past month, we purchased a new couch and chair for our rental cabin in Front Royal, Blue Mountain Oasis.

Front Royal, settled by whites as early as 1738, was originally known as Lehewtown, and was also known as "Helltown", due to the abundance of rough and wild mountaineers and river travelers in the area who came into town looking for alcohol and women. It was incorporated as "Front Royal" in 1788.

Virginia Wine Corkage
Last year a law was passed that allows you to bring your own wine into restaurants in Virginia. From the locally owned restaurant to a franchise like Outback, you have no limits. It's close to a year since the law passed and I haven't even taken advantage of it. It doesn't seem to be that advertised, known, and many stories are floating around about folks bringing wine in and being refused because the restaurant owners aren't even 100% up to speed on this. Perhaps it's a cultural thing? Something hard to break?

One of the things that guests often ask me is how good are the slopes at Bryce Resort in Virginia? I'm the first to tell them, for Virginia, they do a superb job! In order to achieve this, Bryce has invested a lot of money into snow making and snow grooming equipment. Below is a short video showing one of these pieces of equipment in action!
