Virginia (Commonwealth of Virginia) is a state in the Southern Atlantic coast of the United States. Recent statistics show that the state has around 8.1 million acres of farm land. Out of which, about 2400 acres of land is planted with grape. With this area of land, Virginia produces in excess of 5,000 tones of grapes and over one million gallons of wine every year. And we call that wine Virginia wine.
Recently, FAO reported that 2,231,600 tonnes of wine was produced in the United States in the year 2009. And all the states in the regions of west coast, east coast, Midwest, South Atlantic and contributed some to this amount. Now let’s talk about some of the top wine producing states in the US.
Alcoholic beverages can generally be classified into two categories; distilled and un-distilled.
Un-distilled alcohols or fermented alcohols are produced by fermentation of starch derived
from fruit, grain or other edible items. On the other hand, distilled alcohols which are commonly
called spirits or liquors are produced by boiling fermented grain or fruits and condensing their
ethanol and other important components.
